Insulation 'will improve comfort levels and carbon footprint'
Insulating homes is the most cost-effective way to warm homes and reduce carbon output, according to one institution.
Behavioural measures, which may make a difference, are nevertheless not as practical and will not last as long as wall cavity and loft insulation, the National Insulation Association (NIA), stated.
Insulating a wall cavity is cost-effective and will reduce the amount of heat used in a home, making average savings of around £90 per year in a typical home.
Neil Marshall, chief executive of the NIA, said: "With ever increasing living expenses it is more cost effective than ever to insulate your home in order to reduce energy bills and with the growing concerns on climate change insulation is a major way of reducing a carbon footprint."
The Energy Saving Trust statistics show that homeowners could be losing as much as 15 per cent of their heating through their roofs if they do not have insulation.
By installing 270mm of insulation homeowners could save £110 a year in their heating bills and save one tonne of CO2.
