Get a grant - builders and developers
To help encourage the installation of renewable energy technologies in new housing developments, SCHRI allows builders, developers and architects to apply for grants on behalf of future owners of houses they are building.
This applies to small companies building one-off homes, and to larger volume developers building multiple properties in the one development.
Why get involved?
Renewable energy offers many benefits - it can reduce household fuel bills and help fight against climate change. By installing a renewable energy system in a property you will offer your customer a home that is cheaper to run and is more sustainable. Whist generally more expensive to install than conventional systems, renewable energy technologies can be seen as a long term investment, especially in light of the increasing cost of fossil fuel.
There's also increasing evidence that people want to live in more sustainable homes. A report by Bryant Homes revealed that 90% of people would prefer their home to be environmentally friendly; 40% were willing to pay more.

How can I get involved?
There are two ways your company can apply for a grant - in conjunction with a homeowner or on behalf of an unknown future owner.
Before going any further, the first thing to consider is that SCHRI applicants must apply for pre-approval of grant, taking into account a set of eligibility criteria. Follow this link to for more information on funding conditions.
If the prospective owner of the house is known
In these cases the owner should make the application, assisted by your company and the chosen accredited installer. The application can be made when the house is being designed or later - the crucial point is that work should not commence until a written grant offer has been issued by EST.
If the prospective owner of the house is unknown
If a company is applying on behalf of an unknown future homeowner the following points apply:
- when the house is complete it should be sold with the renewable energy technology as a key selling feature
- once sold the new owner will be awarded a 30% grant (the Energy Saving Trust can provide detailed guidance and assistance for the grant application)
Any companies interested in applying for funding should contact the EST SCHRI management team on 0131 555 7916 in the first instance.
